enamel earrings, prong-set, turquoise/black scraffito

Layers of blue and transparent aqua were sifted on top of a black enamel base, to create the linear pattern of turquoise stone. The enamel pieces are set with brass wire and prongs.  The ear wires are brass, but can be swapped with sterling silver.

Enamel has been used to add color in jewelry since the 13th-century BC. It is made of fine silica powdered glass, which is fused to metal in a kiln. This particular pattern emerged from an ongoing desire to capture nature in art, by attempting to re-create the linear patterns of mineral inclusions found in Turquoise stone.
